The improvements need approval from the state’s Adirondack Park Agency and they must conform with the State Land Master Plan, which governs how development takes place in the Adirondack Forest Preserve. The priority is widening the trails in order to qualify the mountain for race competitions next winter with the International University Sports Federation Winter World University Games scheduled there. The Gore zip line would have participants ride down the mountain at up to 30 mph suspended high above the ground.Īs plans for Gore progress, ORDA is also seeking approval to widen some trails and build three new connector trails on Whiteface, which is about an hour and fifteen minutes north of Gore. It is not suspended in the air, zip line-style, like the planned Gore attraction. The Cliffside Coaster is akin to a bobsled ride on rails that participants pilot down the mountain. Tourists have been flocking to the Cliffside Coaster ride near Whiteface since it opened in late 2019, suggesting there is a broad appetite for such attractions, especially at ski resorts that are always looking for summertime offerings. Gore is owned and operated by the Olympic Regional Development Authority, the state organization that also owns and operates the Whiteface ski area near Lake Placid and Belleayre in the Catskills. The facility also plans to replace the Hudson chairlift, which runs from the bottom of the Ski Bowl area, with a newer model.
